The project resumed after a halt in 2002 after sorting the objections, and the land was finally acquired in 2007. Then state Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, laid the foundation stone. The Ministry of Environment granted the environmental authorisation, Forest and Climate Change India, in 2016. 

Since then, several trial runs have been carried out, but the inauguration was further delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
